EVEN IF IT’S GREAT, WILL ANYONE SEE KRAVEN THE HUNTER?

Yesterday on the show we obviously talked about the new Kraven The Hunter trailer. I’m as surprised as anyone about just how good the trailer was. It was better than good, it was a GREAT trailer. It was hyper violent, focused on action, really tried to take advantage of the current popularity of Deadpool by leaning into the whole “R-Rated” nature of it, and the music selection was very reminiscent of the brilliant Logan trailer using some Johnny Cash. Again… great trailer.

However, we’ve all been around long enough to know that just because a trailer is good, doesn’t mean the movie will be good. Hell, the Morbius trailer was quite good and look how that movie turned out (it was awful).

But here’s the real question. Let’s say for the sake of discussion that the movie is really good (not best picture of the year or anything… just really good). Will anyone go out to see it? Two of the worst films in recent memory are Morbius and Madame Web, and the horrible taste is still in the mouths of moviegoers like they bit into a physical fart balloon. So regardless of how good these trailers are, and maybe even regardless of how well the movie gets reviewed… is anyone going to go?

The way I see it, not many people will. And I think Sony knows this. So why do the movie? Well, winning cures everything… so if Kraven can come out and be fantastic (who knows if it will or not), then it gives a better chance for success for future films they want to make, even if it means this one loses money. We’ll just have to wait and see. But dear heavens, if this movie is as bad as Madame Web, they should absolutely pull a David Zaslav and just kill it before it goes to theaters and they hurt themselves even more. ~John

OTHER BIG STORIES YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

1) Mark Wahlberg Explains Why The Six Billion Dollar Man Is the Only Superhero Movie on His Mind

  • Mark Wahlberg is set to star in the upcoming film "The Six Billion Dollar Man," a reboot of the 1970s television series.

  • Wahlberg prefers this project over portraying a DC or Marvel superhero because he finds the concept of a grounded, plausible superhero more appealing.

  • He specifically mentioned that he doesn't have the confidence to wear a superhero suit, which is a major reason why he prefers "The Six Billion Dollar Man."

  • The film has faced several delays and changes in directors and studios, but Wahlberg recently confirmed that they have reacquired the rights and are hoping to begin production soon.
