Deadpool Is The Most Woke Movie Of The Year Yet The Usual Complainers Remain Silent - TJCS Newsletter
CONSTANT HOMOEROTIC DIALOGUE, LESBIAN COUPLE, FEMALE VILLAIN RULING MEN AND DESTROYING MALE HEROES: SO WHERE’S THE ‘GO WOKE GO BROKE’ CROWD?
Right from the outset, to not appear disingenuous, let me acknowledge right up front that I consider using the word “woke” in terms of movie conversation to be 2 degrees lower on the scale than flat earther conversations. It’s a term liberally used to (poorly) camouflage bigotries and victim signaling. They are the WOKE! crowd. Gleefully flinging the term “woke” at just about anything without much logic associated.
The funny thing is, this catchphrase is basically a catch-all term. It’s used in almost every situation because frankly none of the people who use it have remotely similar definitions for what “woke” is. Maybe this is why they’ve been so inconsistent with how and when the term should be used.
Take THE MARVELS for example
The Marvels certainly isn’t a great movie. But I’ve always been confused by those who blast it as “woke”. Because here’s the thing: I saw the movie a couple of times and I still can’t tell you what was “woke” about it. Not once in the movie is there some powerful speech about girl power. Not once in the movie is any theme of gay relationships or equal rights or any remotely similar theme ever raised or mentioned.
As a matter of fact, if you change the 3 female leads of the film into male characters, the movie doesn’t change at all. It’s just as good/bad as it was before. Whenever I’ve asked someone to tell me why it’s “woke” it always comes down to the same thing. It… has… women in the lead. Just the fact that 3 women (two non-white) are there and have roles is enough to offend the WOKE! crowd. To them, just the fact that women are there is a “message” in and of itself even though there was literally no message in the film at all.
But man, Deadpool And Wolverine is another story.
While the movie is headlined by two white males, the film itself is FILLED with all the hot-button phrases that would normally trigger the WOKE! crowd to cry… well… WOKE!!!! The movie is loaded with stuff such as:
A foot-to-the-floor, non-stop flood of homoerotic references, dialogue and jokes. Deadpool’s overt crush on Thor and ogling of Gambit, the “fucky fucky” guy at the TV and on and on and on.
There’s a lesbian couple. True, they’re only in the movie for a couple of scenes, but that’s sometimes MORE than enough to illicit calls of WOKE! from certain people.
While lost in the Void, Deadpool and Wolverine, unable to save themselves, turn to a group of people who are essentially a black guy (BLADE) and two women (ELECTRA and X-23). Yeah, Gambit was there too, but normally white male characters needing to turn to black or female characters for help/saving usually ends in the call of WOKE!
When our male heroes confront the big bad female character they get completely destroyed. Casandra absolutely beats their asses without any trouble or coming close to breaking a sweat. This happens multiple times in the film. When a woman so effortlessly beats up the white male characters, you normally can be sure the cries of WOKE are about to echo in the valley.
When the Deadpool Corps shows up in the third act, despite the fact that there are about 100 of them, obviously the leader of the group is the 1 female version (Lady Deadpool). The only women having a higher position than all those male variants is normally 100% guaranteed to get the WOKE! battlecry going.
Kidpool is gender-swapped. In the comics, he’s male. But in Deadpool and Wolverine they gender-swap her into a girl (the real-life daughter of Ryan Reynolds). A movie doing a gender swap is one of the highest trigger points for the WOKE people.
Off the screen, the movie’s 3 main figures (Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman) are all gay rights, gender equality, and social justice supporters. This type of thing alone is usually enough for the WOKE! crowd to start handing out the label.
There are many other examples in the film that I’m sure many of you could recite off the top of your head, but we’ve made the point.
The WOKE! crowd have one major criterion when it comes to which movies to attack. Success. If a movie doesn’t succeed… WOKE! If a movie does succeed… stay quiet. That’s why: THE MARVELS = WOKE! while DEAPOOL AND WOLVERINE = NO PROBLEM!
It gets even worse. You see, the WOKE! crowd is basically Mr. Paradox.
At the end of the movie (SPOILER WARNING) when confronted by the TVA after the apparent deaths of Wolverine and Deadpool, Paradox feigns sadness, lamenting “those were MY men. My friends.” When in reality he had been against them and everything they represent the entire movie.
That’s what many in the WOKE! crowd are doing now. The huge success of Deadpool and Wolverine isn’t only keeping them silent from their normal WOKE! cries, but they’re actually attempting to hijack the film to make it out to be an ANTI-WOKE! project somehow.
I’ve seen so many articles, youtube titles etc. declaring that Deadpool And Wolverine “Sticks it to woke Hollywood!” and so on and so forth, which is obviously ridiculous. But Mr. Paradox will do what Mr. Paradox will do.
At the end of the day, none of this should matter to anyone. A movie is a movie and should be judged on its own creative merits regardless of how many white, black, asain, male, female, gay, straight, tall or short people are in it. A good movie is a good movie and a bad one is a bad one. I just find is rather sad when Mr. Paradox enters the chat and tries to pretend like he and Deadpool are BFFs and had his back the whole time. But whatever.

Ryan Reynolds, along with his mother and best friend Hugh Jackman, crashed interviews for Brandon Sklenar, Blake Lively's on-screen love interest in the film "It Ends With Us."
Reynolds jokingly questioned Sklenar about his physique and relationship with his mother, while his mother expressed her affection for Sklenar and even revealed that her husband had passed away in 2015.
Jackman, posing as a menacing interviewer, questioned Sklenar about his intentions with Lively's character, but ultimately joined Reynolds and his mother in praising Sklenar.
The entire event was a lighthearted and humorous way to promote the film "It Ends With Us," which is set to release on August 9th.
MY THOUGHTS - This video KILLS me. Guys, I’ve done SO FUCKING MANY of these mind-numbing press-junket interviews in this exact setup that just watching this gives me PTSD. But this is hilarious, and it’s great seeing Ryan and Hugh supporting Blake’s movie like this. I don’t expect a ton of people are going to see this movie, but hopefully this little stunt gets a few extra people out.
2) Gus Van Sant in talks to helm Hulk Hogan movie; Could Ben Affleck & Matt Damon star?
Gus Van Sant is in talks to direct a Hulk Hogan movie titled "Killing Gawker," focusing on Hogan's legal battle against Gawker.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are attached to produce the film through their Artists Equity production banner.
The film is based on the book "Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue" by Ryan Holiday.
Rumors suggest that Affleck could play Hulk Hogan and Damon could play Peter Thiel, the billionaire entrepreneur who funded Hogan's lawsuit against Gawker.
MY THOUGHTS - This one just seems really odd to me. Not sure I see what the upside is for anyone involved and I really don’t think the movie gets an audience. No one looks good in this real-life story. Hogan was absolutely wronged by Gawker. But at the same time, Hogan got himself into the situation (if you know you know). And Affleck and Damon being involved? All I can assume at this point is they must have some sort of killer take on it. Let’s see what happens.
3) And Now Warner Bros. Discovery Is Shuttering the Boomerang Streaming Service
Warner Bros. Discovery is shutting down its Boomerang streaming service on September 30, 2024.
Some of Boomerang's programming will be integrated into Max, WBD's core streaming service.
Subscribers will be automatically moved to Max's ad-free tier for a minimum of six months at no additional cost.
The Boomerang cable channel will continue to operate.
This move is part of Warner Bros. Discovery's strategy to consolidate its streaming services and reduce costs.
MY THOUGHTS - We all knew this was going to happen and will continue happening. When streaming became the big thing around the pandemic, everyone started launching services flooding the market where a lot of services already existed. The culling of services isn’t over. At least most of the content is being saved and the 6 months free MAX for those subscribers is at least a nice little touch too. Still, sucks for those who were fans of the service.
4) Daisy Ridley Reveals She's Been Diagnosed with Graves’ Disease: 'I Didn't Realize How Bad I Felt'
Daisy Ridley, known for her role in Star Wars, has been diagnosed with Graves' disease, an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland.
She first noticed symptoms like hot flashes and fatigue after filming her psychological thriller "Magpie."
Ridley's symptoms, including hand tremors, a racing heart rate, and weight loss, are often described as "tired but wired."
While there is no cure for Graves' disease, Ridley has been managing her symptoms through medication, a more mindful diet, and self-care practices.
My THOUGHTS - I really like this girl. Great screen presence, gives solid performances every time and seems to take everything in stride. It has always sucked how much certain people laid blame and abuse on her for things they may not have liked about the recent Star Wars movies. It was Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best all over again.
5) Matt Damon Weighs In On Whether Ocean’s 14 Will Happen
Matt Damon has expressed openness to the possibility of an Ocean's 14, suggesting that a reunion of the original cast could happen if a good script is written and everyone is available.
While Damon and Casey Affleck seem enthusiastic about the idea, Brad Pitt has previously expressed reluctance, although he may have changed his mind after enjoying his reunion with George Clooney for Wolves.
Don Cheadle has confirmed that conversations about Ocean's 14 have taken place, but scheduling conflicts with the mega-stars involved could pose a challenge.
MY THOUGHTS - I really don’t care what it would take, I would LOVE another Ocean’s movie. And by the way, I liked the one with Sandra Bullock, but to have the original crew back (RIP Carl Reiner) would be amazing and I’d be there day 1 to see it. These have been some of the best heist movies of the generation and getting the guys back together would be amazing. Probably won’t happen, but man would it be incredible.
